Bembé’s Cultural Arts Apprenticeship Program will cultivate the next generation of cultural artists and educators of Afro-Latino oral musical traditions through a 10-month paid apprenticeship for 15-19 year olds . A intergenerational, mutual exchange project, apprentices will learn from and work with cultural artist masters in Afro-Latino musical traditions while also cultivating strong employment skills and earning a weekly stipend in this commitment-based program. Throughout the program, apprentices will participate in skill-building in music, dance and song techniques as well as audio and video production, theatrical stage management, event planning, and teaching artistry. The apprenticeship will produce a public, digital archive of ancestral songs, offer opportunities to travel within the Diaspora, host local community cultural celebrations, and culminate with a theatrical production.
