About Bembé’s Learning From the Masters Residency: Created to pass on Afro-Latino musical traditions directly from cultural elders through oral and cultural praxis, Learning From the Masters brings master artists-in-residence from the African Diaspora to Milwaukee for short and long-term residencies, offering community practice and in-depth learning. Bembé’s year-over-year Learning From Masters Artists in Residence included: Pablo Guerreiro (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Marcus Santos (Salvador, Brazil), Carolina Oliveros and Camilo Rodriguez (Colombia), and Beto Torrens (San Juan, Puerto Rico).
